I swear I am so clueless when it comes to party planning. But as each year passes by, I get better and better at it. I mean, look at this post for Hayden’s 1st birthday… HUUUGE difference, right? Ok, no need to look at my old posts after that, they are pretty embarrassing.
When I first became a mom, I swore to myself that I would never throw a cheesy, character birthday party. For Hayden’s 2nd birthday, I was still so clueless about the whole kids party thing (and I was also preggo with Hadley) that I just ended up throwing her a pizza party with super minimal decor. For Hayden’s 3rd birthday, we did a gender neutral Build-A-Terrarium party. For her 4th birthday, I did a Modern Princess Party by spray painting princesses figurines to neon. And this year, for her 5th birthday, Hayden specifically asked for a “My Little Pony” party… and no coloring her toys, LOL!
I knew this time would come, when my kids would know exactly what they want. So my life mantra is, if you cannot change something, embrace it.
While My Little Pony is not cheesy (I do love them myself), I still didn’t want everything to be ALL character. It can be such an overkill. So for this party, I’m applying some of the design tricks I learned from my cousin/business partner, Gloria, while building out our new business, Harlow & Grey. I decided to use Hayden’s toys as decor, picked up a few things from Party City, and color coordinated party supplies to decorate her party. (Oh Happy Day Shop is the perfect place for that, btw!)
And the result? I’ll let you be the judge.
P.S. – Harlow & Grey is launching spring 2016. Make sure to sign up! :)
I honestly didn’t spend too much time or money for this party. What I love most is that Hayden and her sister and friends all had an amazing time! Hayden is such a sweet, happy and appreciative little girl. Sometimes I really wonder what I did to deserve her.
I hope you enjoyed looking through Hayden’s party! Next up, Hadley turning 3, oh boy. At least that’s a few months from now. :)
