Hey friends, while I’m still enjoying time off with my newborn this month, I wanted to pop in here today to wish you all a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR! The above pictures were actually taken two years ago when I went to the CNY street festival in San Francisco Chinatown. It was one of the very first blog posts that I did on Shop Sweet Things (eek, here’s the original version.) Since I couldn’t make it out to brave the crowd this year with a baby, I thought it would be fitting to repost these pictures. It was also six months after I had my first daughter ~ crazy how time flies!

I love, love, love celebrating Chinese New Year! This is the biggest and most festive holiday of all especially because I grew up in Hong Kong. It certainly brings back a lot of fond memories. Now that I’m older, I love this day not only because of all the festivities and good food, but because it brings me back to my roots. It keeps me grounded and reminds me of who I am. With two little girls in my life now, I most certainly want to keep this tradition going and hope they will feel the same when Chinese New Year comes around. I want them to be proud of their heritage.

I’m off to celebrate a whole day of fun with my mom, my dad, my sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces! Yea, I have a pretty big family here and quite lucky they’re mostly all in the city. Hope you’re enjoying the weekend too, and of course, what’s Chinese New Year without wishing you all lots of happiness, prosperity, and good health!
