Wow, what a week we had! So much emotions with the election. I had quite a difficult time to put myself to work after the announcement of our new president. But guess what? Life goes on. I know so many of us are still in denial and in grief with the results, but there are also so many of us who are happy with it.
One thing that really stunned me the most about this whole election is that part of it came down to gender and sexism. What happened to the policies that are at stake? I’m sure it boggled so many of our minds.
Therefore, I think one of the best things we can do right now is to educate and empower ourselves. I’ve always been an advocate for women empowerment so anything that lift and support the female race is good in my books. Which brings me to share with you this new book, In The Company Of Women by Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge. I had the pleasure of attending her recent book tour and panel in the Bay Area, and also watching my good friend/graphic designer Lisa of Good On Paper, florist and owner Flora Grubb, and jewelry designer Emi Grannis share their experiences, successes, and challenges as a woman entrepreneur. It was such a great and inspiring evening! And of course I learned a thing or two:
- On how to manage priorities – learn the power of saying “hell no” to things that aren’t important to you.
- On how to treat your employees (and people in general) – be flexible and have empathy towards people you work with or manage.
- On the constant comparison we face through social media and people around you – the only person you should ever compare yourself to is the person you were yesterday.
I hope you will pick up this book too. It will lift your spirit up when you most need it!
Have a great weekend!
