How To Give Your Home A Fresh Start

Hi friends! A little late but – HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had a nice, long break. For those of you who have kids going back to school, this is the Monday that really gets going for us!

While I’m a little sad that the holiday season is officially over, there is something about a new beginning that feels very exciting. Sure, getting back into the routine is going to be tough, and that’s why I always like to start the new year with a little refresh of my home. I think it sets a good vibe for the rest of the year, don’t you think?

Since moving into our new home over a year ago, I’ve been trying to be very intentional about the pieces I bring in. The upside is that my home is still very clean and minimal. But the downside is that it’s lacking LIFE.

Now, I don’t want to go into the new year feeling boring and lifeless. That’s no fun for anyone! So one way I thought I would give my home a fresh start is to add some new plants. But I’ve also been hesitant to do so because of two reasons. One, I am not a green thumb person. Two, I don’t know how to decorate my home with plants.

I know this sounds silly to some of you, but I have a very hard time envisioning and choosing the right plants for my space. And for these reasons (and past failed attempts), I just can’t justify spending money on plants that I don’t know how it would look in my home, or worse yet, die in a few weeks.

This is when I was SO glad Léon & George reached out to me and introduced me to their service. They’re not your typical plant shop/nursery or your big box retailers. They source from responsible suppliers who do not treat their crops with harmful chemicals, and they curate the highest quality of easy-care indoor plants that are well adapted for city environments.

You can simply order online and they deliver straight to your door – already groomed, potted and styled all in a modern ceramic planter. It looks straight out of design magazines and blogs!

And if you’re the type of person who may need that extra personal attention when it comes to plant shopping (ahem, like me), you can book an appointment online for a personal shopping session at their SF location where it includes a visit to their greenhouse that is generally closed to the public. Their shop is open to the public five days a week, but they are happy to accommodate you even outside of their store hours. That’s the difference of working and supporting a small business!

I’m also a big advocate for small and unexpected details and attentive customer service. I love these pretty instruction care cards that come with every plant purchase! They even offer lifetime plant care support to guide you on how to take care of your leafy friends, and the best thing is each plant includes a 30-day guarantee.

Here’s a true story. I got a Fiddle Leaf plant from Léon & George that I placed next to my sofa. I loved it and it was looking so healthy and full for the first two weeks. But suddenly, some of the leaves started to turn brown and crispy and leaves were falling off the plant.

I realized too late that my home was too dry due to me blasting the heat in the winter, so the plant did not survive after all.  So I called Léon & George for help. They recommended a less fussier plant for me, the Rubber Tree, and replaced my plant within 3 days! If that’s not what you called good customer service, then I don’t know what is. Our Rubber Tree has been thriving and even growing new leaves!

So you might ask – how do I choose the right plants for my home? I had the same problem and honestly I didn’t know where to start either. So I took advantage of their Personal Shopping Session and visited their shop and shared a few pictures of my space to a Léon & George staff, Renée. She was able to give me some recommendations based on the lighting and temperature in my house as well as the size of the plants she thinks will go well in those spaces. I was able to pick and choose the plants from their greenhouse, and I felt so much more at ease knowing that I was getting expert advice from people who value style and design, too. It’s very different from walking into your everyday plant nursery and just aimlessly picking out a plant that you’re not too sure about, or talking to a staff who doesn’t really understand your needs, and then still having to deal with the hassle of finding a nice planter to go with the plant.

Léon & George is seriously a gem, and now it’s my favorite premium “one-stop shop” for all indoor plants. If you’re looking to refresh your home with lush and beautiful plants but don’t know where to start, I HIGHLY recommend going in for a visit. But essentially, Léon & George is an online service so you can shop straight from their site and get everything done in the comfort of your own home, too. And depending on the size of your plants, they deliver to all over U.S. too so this is not restricted to my Bay Area friends.

I can’t tell you how pleased I am with my plants and how much life it adds to my home! It really is amazing how a few plants can transform a space. I think I’m even starting to develop a little green thumb that I didn’t know I had before. I enjoy nurturing my plants and it’s becoming my daily routine. My favorite part is that I love getting my kids involved too. It’s so cute that Hayden and Hadley treat the plants as part of the family. :)

Hadley named our Desert Cactus “Olivia”.  She said it’s her favorite plant in the house. Probably because they’re the same size, ha!

If you’re ready to refresh your home with magazine-ready looking plants, I hope Léon & George will be a good resource for you. Happy plant shopping!
