This Is Oakland: A Guide to the City’s Most Interesting Places

Hi friends, happy Friday! I’m so glad this week is coming to an end. This count down to Christmas thing is driving me a little crazy. Who’s behind on their X’mas shopping? Me! #notproud. I’m always envious of people who has it so together during this of the year. I don’t like the pressure, to tell you the truth. But everything else about the holidays, I LOVE!

Today, I want to let you in on some exciting news from a friend of mine, Melissa Davis. Remember Melissa and Sammy on our playdate? Well, this cool mom I featured is coming out with a photo-driven travel guide called This is Oakland: A Guide to the City’s Most Interesting Places, highlighting all of the beautiful and inspiring places that this city has to offer! image004

For us local folks, we all know too well about Oakland. This city has changed so much in the last 5-10 years. Even though it’s only 20 minutes away from SF, it has always been a rough part of town to live and there weren’t much happening there. But over time, more and more independent and creative businesses are popping up and now it’s even making a name on the map. I’ve even featured this Popuphood in Old Oakland a while back and was totally charmed by it! Many would compare Oakland as the west coast of “Brooklyn”, and I would have to agree.

I’m so glad there is someone like Melissa, and her photographer, Kristen Loken, coming out with a book about this transformation and documenting it in such a beautiful way! Even though it’s a city guide/lifestyle type of book… to me, it really is documenting history and the people who’s making Oakland thrive! So, as a friend, as a local, as a supporter, I’m asking all of my friends to help back this wonderful project in Kickstarter Campaign. I already did and I know Melissa and Kristen would appreciate your support so much! I know for a fact that they poured their heart and soul and all their non-existent free time into this project.  image003

This was when Hayden and I visited Esqueleto in Temescal Alley during our night out in Oakland with friends. Such a cool area to hang out if you’ve never been to Oakland!

Thanks so much to Melissa and Kristen on letting me spread the news about this beautiful book! I’m really excited for them and can’t wait to see this book in person.

Have a nice weekend, everyone, and I hope you are delighted about this book as much as I am! xo Jeanne
