I can’t believe George and I just celebrated our 16th year together. That’s almost like two decades… like ‘been there, done that’ kinda couple.
Many people think that being in a relationship is effortless, but from my experience, it takes a lot of effort. People can easily grow apart and things can easily go stale. And while I’m no relationship expert, one thing I do know about what keeps George and I strong is that we try new things together. Whether it’s going to new places, discovering a new hobby, learning a new skill, or simply learning new ways to communicate (think body rubdowns :)), I think it’s important to rediscover each other in new ways.
About two weeks ago, I enrolled us in an iPhoneography class taught by an amazing local photog, Sarah Deragon. I’ve been obsessed with iPhone photos (thanks to Instagram), and I’m also trying to encourage George to pick up photography again (and of course, take better photos of me, haha!) I discovered it on this site called HowAboutWe for Couples, a company that helps people fall in love and stay in love. HowAboutWe first started out as an online dating site for singles, but now has expanded the service for couples where they get people in relationships on wonderful dates, tailored for two.
We took our class, or shall I call date, at the Ferry Building and met up with Sarah. There was another couple in the class with us too which made it actually kind of fun. I love that even though I’ve been to the Ferry Building many times, we’re actually seeing it with a different eye this time around. And having Sarah there to guide us , at the Ferry Building and met up with Sarah. There was another couple in the class with us too which made it actually kind of fun. I love that even though I’ve been to the Ferry Building many times, we’re actually seeing it with a different eye this time around. And having Sarah there to guide us was just fantastic! It was interesting to learn about George’s perspectives and see what caught his eyes. It was like discovering a new way to learn about my guy.
It is so true that new experiences make a great relationship, and having something like HowAboutWe certainly helps. I love that signing up is free, the dates are affordable and fun, and all the details are taken care of beforehand. I’ve already bookmarked other dates I’m considering on going like custom flights & tapas at a local restaurant, learn to give each other rubdowns (I wasn’t kidding), beer making class, a sail on the bay, and couples at-home wine class.
Since George and I had such a great first date, I wanted to pass this along to you as well. The folks over at HowAboutWe are offering my readers $50 off on your first date booking. That’s like 50% off considering most of their dates are around $100. Like I said, sign up is free and you can browse through their curated collection. HowAboutWe for Couples are only in SF and NYC as of now, so I can only offer this promo to readers in these two cities.
All the photos above are by Sarah Deragon of Portraits To The People. (Thank you Sarah!!!) Below are a few iPhone photos George and I took. :) Amazing what little lesson from a pro can do! And such a fun way to document our date.
This post is kindly sponsored by HowAboutWe. All opinions shared here are my own. See here for your $50 off on your first date (promo applies to new members only and offer expires 12/31/13). Happy dating! xo Jeanne
